In a highly competitive and ever lower freight rates and new shipping alliances have just concluded. On 20 April an agreement was signed to create a new organization “Ocean Alliance“:
- CMA/CGM (France, 3rd World),
- Cosco (China, 4rd World),
- Evergreen (Taïwan, 5rd World),
- OOCL (Hong-Kong, 9rd World).
Competition maritime transport
With a total fleet of more than 350 container ships “Ocean Alliance” direct goes into conceived of “2M” consisting of No. 1 and 2 world, the Danish Maersk and the Swiss-Italian MSC. Maritime alliances address the need for companies to operationally streamline services (cost, sharing routes, load factors, etc.).
Container shipping
The agreement will enter into force in April 2017 for a total duration of 5 years. To be functional, the alliance will nevertheless obtain the agreement of the competent authorities, particularly in Europe, the USA and China.
Merging with China Shipping Cosco already raised questions about the future alliances of which they were members. Alliances “Ocean 3“, “CKYHE “, “G6” now seem destined to disappear with the creation of “Ocean Alliance“. Note also the recent creation of “THE Alliance” consisting of Mitsui OSK Line (Asia), K Line (Asia), NYK Line (Asia), Hanjin Shipping (Asia), Yang Ming (Asia) and Hapag -Lloyd (German). This alliance will be effective in April 2017.
