From June 15, 2019 a latest-generation tachograph will have to be installed in new trucks.
The European Commission has updated the legislation on tachographs to make fraud more complex, improve the efficiency of controls and reduce administrative procedures for companies.
These tachographs will be installed on new vehicles subject to Regulation (EU) No N°561/2006 pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 165/2014 and Annex 1C of Implementing Regulation (EU) No 2016/799 as amended by Regulation (EU) No 2018/502.
2nd generation digital tachographs
All new trucks registered from June 15, 2019 must be equipped. Old vehicles will have 15 years to equip this new system to operate outside their State of registration.
Here are the main novelties:
- Global Navigation Satelitte System (GNSS): communication between satellites and the tachograph. It makes it possible to record in the tachograph the position of the vehicle.
- The STI (Systems Transport Intelligent ): system that transmits activity data to other applications.
- Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC): short-range communication used by screening officers to enable control bodies to remotely detect possible tampering or misuse and to immobilize only proven vehicles.
